Liberated Brew
We believe there are no better bedfellows than our microbes and ancient Ayurvedic plants used for centuries by Vedic doctors. Why you ask? Both medicinal plants and our beneficial microbes, have one goal in mind—to bring us back into balance.
Editrix takes this natural alliance to a new level with a proprietary fermentation process we’ve called Liberated Botanicals. There are multiple reasons why fermenting herbs and plants is more desirable than using their simple extracts. Fermentation makes plants more bioavailable by breaking down their molecular structure and releasing their nutrients. Bioavailability simply means that these nutrients can penetrate more deeply into the skin. Also, there is an alchemy and magic that is involved with the fermentation process—the very act of microorganisms digesting nutrients produces a completely new byproduct called post biotics that have their own, unique nutritional profile rich in amino acids, beta glucans, vitamins, and polysaccharides. In Liberated Botanicals, the microorganism we use in fermentation is galactomyces, a fungus most well known as the yeast used in sake fermentation.
On its own, galactomyces ferment has unique beautifying properties and is a well-known ingredient in South Korean beauty—now you know the secret behind that porcelain skin. The legendary story that seemed to launch a million beauty brands is that of elderly sake brewers in Japan who had hands that defied their age from years of encountering this yeast. Legend or not, the facts back up the effectiveness of the nutrient dense ferment. In a study featured in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology: An 8-day treatment of 10% galactomyces ferment filtrate increased the expression of glutathione S-transferase, a detoxifying enzyme. In the same study, with 5% and 10% concentration, melanin was reduced by 35 % and 55%, respectively, within 25 days.
Not only does it decrease the appearance of dark spots and work as a heavy lifting antioxidant, galactomyces shrinks pores (again, that flawless, porcelain skin) and protects the skin barrier.
Editrix uses concentrations of 15% galactomyces in both Superare and Bakterium Deliruium.
With galactomyces boasting such multitasking abilities, we added the Ayurvedic superpowers of Centella Asiatica, Terminalia Arjuna as well as the Calendula flower to our fermenting broth to create an unparalleled level of potency and penetration.
Centella Asiatica:
Adaptagenic plant which helps skin adapt to different environments and conditions
Boosts collagen and decreases inflammation
Good for all skin conditions
Helps the microbiome get back to homeostasis
Terminalia Arjuna:
Decreases TEWL (transepidermal water loss)
Improves skin moisturization
Improves skin elasticity
Increases blood microflow and skin sebum content
Increases skin thickness
Calendula:
Improves and maintains skin barrier
Reduces inflammation
Protects against photoaging and photodamage
Prevents dryness
Many of the benefits of these Ayurvedic plants overlap with the benefits of our beneficial bacteria when protected and allowed to bloom. This perfect marriage that has the ability to bring out the best in each other—the true test of any good relationship.
